The Trusted Name in Power Cords—Interpower®
For 50 years Interpower has designed and manufactured electrical power cords, cord sets, and components for industries worldwide. In 2008, Interpower began its industry-unique 1-week U.S. lead times on North American and international cord sets, and accessory power products such as accessory power strips and power distribution units. That tradition continues today, as Interpower sources the finest raw materials from resins to metals for every electrical product it manufactures in Oskaloosa and Lamoni, Iowa. Stocked cords and components ship the same day at no extra cost.
Hospital-grade & Standard NEMA Cord Sets
Interpower is renowned for its rugged and reliable North American molded and hand-wired NEMA 5-15, 5-20, 6-15, and 6-20 hospital-grade cords, as well as its standard NEMAs. Inside every Interpower molded hospital-grade plug is a stainless steel ring clamped around the ground, line, and neutral wires inside the plug. The clamped ring ensures a solid crimp without cutting the fine wires of the conductors, making it nearly impossible for the wires to be yanked loose during a medical emergency.
That same craftsmanship carries over to Interpower’s standard North American 5-15, 5-20, 6-15, and 6-20 cord sets and its international cord sets bearing country-specific plugs and international cable delivering AC power to multiple industries—medical, IT, robotics, food service, test and measurement, gaming, hospitality, and office—anywhere dependable power cords are needed to ensure safe electrical connectivity from the wall outlet to the accessory power strip (APS) accepting IEC 60320 jumper cords to power multiple machines and devices. The company also offers UL-approved, IP-rated inlets to prevent the accumulation of water and dust.
Quantifiable Differentiators
Interpower has a “No minimum orders or dollar requirements” policy allowing customers to order just 1 cord—or thousands of cords. Additionally, customers can lock in their prices with Blanket and Scheduled ordering. Blanket ordering: lock your price, and order cords throughout the year when you need them; Scheduled ordering: lock your price, and set predetermined dates year-round to receive your cords. Supplemental services include cord coiling, hanking, bagging, labeling, barcoding and boxing. Cords can be custom labeled (“Operating Room 1,” “ER 2,” “Molder 5,” “Rack A-7”) allowing staff to know where the cords belong. If the cords will be shipped to a warehouse, or shipped to multiple warehouses and offices, customized barcoding ensures the cords will arrive at the exact location down to the aisle and bin, or scanned to a specific department.
As a safety feature, Interpower manufactures a reinforced, glass-infused resin cord clip, which can be molded onto cords near the plug to prevent tripping over excess cord, and to keep wheeled equipment from rolling over its jacketed conductors. The special resin is both flexible and sturdy enough to hold cords in place without smashing the conductor wires.
Also unique is how Interpower molds upwards of 40 different country-specific plugs and cord sets in one week due to its quick-change molding process. This allows customers, using IEC 60320 appliance and interconnection couplers along with jumper cords in their designs, to quickly deploy cord sets overseas. A few cord makers mold several million cords a year while often using the same mold for months at a time. Interpower’s quick-change system allows the temporary pause of an order to change out one country’s mold for another country’s mold if needed while assuring all orders meet their 1-week U.S. lead times.
Connecting Globally
Interpower also manufactures an array of IEC 60320 appliance and interconnection couplers that include connectors, inlets, plug connectors, and outlets. Popular choices are the C13 and C19 connectors, C14 and C20 inlets, Sheet E and Sheet I plug connectors, and Sheet F and Sheet J outlets. Using the appliance and interconnection couplers with IEC 60320 jumper cords and an accessory power strip, all that’s need for global exporting is a country-specific plug on one end of the cord set which plugs into the wall outlet.
Customer-centric
Interpower is well known for its online electrical content of North American and international power cords, cable, accessory power, and electrical components and agency standards and directives found on the company’s website Interpower. “Our customers reach out to us for solutions to ease their pain,” Interpower Vice President Ralph Bright said. “Whether it’s shipping delays, material shortages, or complex standards, our goal is to provide customers with electrical knowledge in multiple formats. Our videos, e-newsletters, blogs, and whitepapers make that knowledge readily available.” Part number lookups of products are easy on the website where products are presented listing their raw materials, electrical ratings, approvals, drawings and dimensions.
Interpower’s customer service team is reachable via phone and e-mail. No bots, no long queues directing you to an endless menu of other queues. “Often customers ask, ‘Where are your cords made?’” said Raina Baker, Interpower Customer Service Manager. “When we tell them we make them right here in Iowa, they love that. They love U.S.A.-made cords and components because they know our cords will ship the same day if we have them in stock.”
By the Book
Interpower has received numerous approvals and certifications from renowned safety agencies such as UL, VDE, JET, NSW, SEV, and many others to ensure they are compliant with each country’s standards, as well as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards. (Note: the aforementioned safety agencies enforce IEC standards, which is written and published by IEC).
