We offer consulting and feasibility studies, specification and concept, engineering and design, prototyping, test and verification, procurement, assembly and test. 

Optical Problem Analysis and Requirements Engineering

Understanding the technical requirements and the targeted number of units at the start of a new project is the key for success. In close exchange with the customer, we analyse the optical problems and challenges. We derive relevant requirements and engineer suitable concepts in terms of system performance and target product cost. Our expertise lies not only in theoretical optical design, but we also understand the prerequisites for controlled serial production of optical components and assemblies to ensure constant product quality. Our in-house measuring equipment facilities the qualification of single components and of the complete systems and definition of acceptance criteria for future serial production. We use Zemax OpticStudio for sequential and non-sequential ray tracing, polarisation ray tracing, optimisation, tolerancing, and tool fitting.

Optomechanical Design of application specific Lenses and Systems

By nature, the optical components are the core of the systems. The optomechanical design ensures not only proper positioning and alignment of the single component. It also provides the mechanical and electrical interfaces to the customer’s system. Moreover, it protects the optics to withstand environmental stress during the application such as temperature, vibration and contamination. In the design phase Projectina also includes the expertise of manufacturers and specialist from the assembly team to elaborate the optimal solution. We use SolidWorks that allows easy engineering data exchange with other 3D-CAD systems.

Prototype and Serial Production and Qualification

Our manufacturing services cover the full supply chain from procurement to assembly, adjustment and test. We rely on an established worldwide network of qualified suppliers for optical, mechanical and electronic components for fast prototype and serial production. Projectina is based in the Rhine Valley with many agile high-tech companies that specialise in optics and precision mechanics. With income quality inspection we ensure that all components have been produced according to our specifications before the specialists from the assembly team build the system. When necessary, we can do this in our clean room. According to customer’s request we ship the products in requested batches, safely packed and protected, and in time.

Objective with High Numerical Aperture for Fluorescent Microscopy

A renown manufacturer of modules for in-vitro diagnostics approached Projectina with a complete design for a sophisticated microscope objective f = 6 mm and NA = 0.8 and asked to quote for production of a prototype series. Tolerance analysis of the provided optical design showed that this cannot be manufactured in a controlled manner to ensure quality. Projectina proposed an optimised redesign regarding the requirements of the application as well as in terms of controlled series production and produced a prototype within the original schedule and target cost. The quality has been verified in-house and validated later in application test at the customers.

Illumination and Detector Modules for Blood Analysis

We cooperate a manufacturer of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Projectina is the partner for manufacturing services, since the system design has been provided by the customer. The scope of supply comprises illumination modules, dedicated ATR (attenuated total reflection) prisms and detector modules in multiple variations. These components are adjusted on a dedicated test ridge and are delivered with bespoke quality documents to the customer. By outsourcing the production of these components, that customer does no longer take care for securing the supply chain and quality control of single components and can rely on the on-time delivery of fully tested and qualified sub-components for the integration in his devices.
