Sensor solutions for Medical Devices
Sensirion is one of the world’s leading developer and manufacturers of sensors and sensor solutions that improve efficiency, health, safety, and comfort. Founded in 1998, we now employ over 1’000 people at our headquarters in Stäfa, Switzerland and in numerous international subsidiaries. Our aim is to make the world smarter by pioneering sensor technology. As a pioneer in innovation, we develop solutions for the specific needs of our customers and partners from the medical, automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics markets, as well as high-quality products for cost-efficient mass production.
Sensors for safe, reliable and efficient medical applications
We supply globally operating customers with off-the-shelf and customized sensor solutions for a wide range of applications. In the medical field our temperature, humidity, gas and liquid flow and gas concentration sensors enable safe and reliable devices for medical ventilation, anesthesia, drug delivery, diagnostics, and digital health applications. As a market leader, we are present in devices of nearly all leading medical device manufacturers.
Ventilation: Precise and safe ventilation of patients
As experts in the field of medical ventilation and leading global manufacturer of flow sensors, our product portfolio includes sensors for inspiratory, expiratory and proximal flow measurements for the treatment of adults and neonates with single-use as well as re-usable solutions. Our sensor platforms consist of multiple flow sensors with comprehensive capabilities for a wide range of applications. All sensors feature high accuracy and robustness, and the fully calibrated and temperature-compensated sensors accurately measure the flow rates of air and other gases bidirectionally. These solutions allow our customers to get to market faster with less development effort, deliver high-performance solutions at an attractive price/performance ratio, and benefit from reliable and proven solutions from flow experts.
Digital Health: Smart-inhalers, subcutaneous drug delivery and breath analysis
Digital health is most powerful when sensors interact in real-time with the patient by collecting physiological meaningful data, analyzing it and providing feedback both to the patient and the healthcare providers. Using the right sensor solution that is capable to collect usage, safety, and diagnostic data, provides a strong value proposition for all parties involved. These solutions allow patients to monitor their health in their home setting, get their drugs administered safely in the comfort of their own home, and obtain real-time feedback on drug delivery or even the course of the disease. The interaction quality between patient and wearable device depends strongly on the sensor. On our path towards digital health, we already offer various advanced sensing technologies for different applications such as smart inhalers, subcutaneous drug delivery/medical patches and breath analysis.
CPAP: Preventing breathing cessations in sleep apnoea patients
Our sensor technology enables precise monitoring of breath and airflow for optimal airway pressure control during respiratory support. The miniaturized flow sensors allow the development of lightweight, portable next generation CPAP devices with precise control of the patient’s breathing. With a market share of more than 90% and approximately 25 million sleep apnoea patients relying on our sensors every day, we are the market leader in sensor solutions for CPAP devices.
6 Heart-lung machines: Takeover of heart and lung function during operations and anesthesia machines
During operations a precise control of air, oxygen and CO₂ flow and gas mixing is crucial for the safety of patients. Our sensor solutions enable reliable and maintenance-free gas mixing as well as highly accurate airflow control. This allows the development of high-performance heart-lung machines. In anesthesia we enable precise gas mixing as well as measuring the drive and breathing gas circuit.
Urine Flow: Flow measurement for the prevention of acute kidney failure
Continuous urine flow measurement allows early detection of acute kidney failure in critically ill patients in intensive care. Our miniaturized, high-precision liquid flow sensors can alert when flow is below a critical threshold, and symptoms of acute kidney failure are threatening. In doing so, they help reduce the pressure on ICU staff, ensure more reliable diagnosis and improve overall patient safety.
New cutting-edge sensor solutions continuously being added to our portfolio
Our world leading sensor portfolio for temperature, humidity, gas and liquid flow, particulate matter and gas concentration sensors is continuously being extended with unique and leading technology and sensor solutions. Latest developments involve CO2 and O2 solutions focusing on breath based and other medical applications. Though you might not find these products on our website yet we recommend reaching out to us with any request involving sensors.
