Precision Machined Components in the Medical Industry
Swissturn/USA, Inc. is a premier American manufacturer of a large variety of precision machined components used by the Medical Device Industry ranging from surgical instruments and diagnostic equipment to respiratory devices, drug delivery systems and endoscopes. We serve a global clientele by delivering high-precision components backed by centuries of collective expertise and a commitment to minimizing your total cost of ownership, providing the lowest total cost for every project. Our New Product Development (NPD) process integrates engineering, quality control and operations during the quoting phase to identify potential failure modes and optimize manufacturability from day one.
Swissturn’s large fleet of Star-brand CNC Swiss screw machines are the perfect fit when precision and accuracy are required to produce these medical machined components and play a crucial role in this critical market allowing the healthcare industry to deliver cutting-edge solutions that improve patient care and treatment outcomes. Swissturn partners with OEMs in the Medical Industry to meet the world’s most rigorous specifications and constantly expands our fleet to increase capacity to meet our customers’ needs.
Our versatile range of Star machines produce precision components ranging in diameters from 0.010” to 1.250” and lengths up to 12”. Our fleet of machines feature automatic bar loaders, sub-spindles and live tooling, enabling unattended “lights out” manufacturing for maximum efficiency and tight tolerances.
Swissturn utilizes both Cincinnati and Royal Master centerless grinders to offer a level of grinding capacity not normally found within the CNC Swiss machining industry. These machines handle a wide range of specifications – bar stock up to 1” in diameter and finished medical components up to 2” in diameter and can achieve incredibly tight tolerances (up to .0003”) and superior finishes for critical applications required for machined components used in medical devices and equipment.
Diagnostic Equipment and Devices Contain Complex Machined Components
Diagnostic equipment devices are made up of complex and precision mechanical assemblies containing critical machined components. It is imperative that these machined components are manufactured to the tight-tolerance specs provided by our customers to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the diagnostic equipment.
Respiratory devices such as inhalers and ventilators contain numerous precision components which are vital to ensure proper airflow which is essential for patients with respiratory conditions.
Delicate surgeries require the use of precision surgical instruments which will minimize patient recovery time and trauma. Instruments such as forceps, clamps, surgical scissors and other items must be machined precisely to provide smooth performance during surgical procedures.
Shafts, Fasteners, Electrical Connectors and Bushings used in Infusion Pumps
Insulin pumps and syringe drivers require precision-machined components such as shafts, fasteners, electrical connectors and bushings to monitor, control and administer the correct amount of medication when needed. Machines and medical devices will meet the highest safety standards and reduce the possibility of errors/failures during medical procedures when containing precision machined components. By manufacturing these precision machined components on our CNC Swiss screw machines, they hold tight tolerances with accuracy and consistency, allowing for complex features in intricate designs which lead to better treatment outcome and improved patient experience. Medical device manufacturers push the boundaries of what’s possible in the patient care using advancement in innovation.
Metal and Plastic Precision Medical Components for the Medical Industry
Endoscopes which are essential and widely used in medical practice contain numerous high precision titanium, stainless steel and plastic components and are required during the assembly of endoscopes.
Disposable medical devices in some cases are eliminating the cleaning and disinfecting processes of reusable medical devices. Swissturn manufactures single-use medical products such as inserts and tunnelers which are used in assemblies. Hundreds of thousands of parts per year are required for disposable devices where reusable devices require quantities in the low thousands per year.
Carefully selected materials are used to manufacture these precision machined components, avoiding risk of adverse reactions when these components come in-contact-with the human body. Brass, aluminum, stainless steel (316L), fine silver and titanium in various grades are frequently used in these medical device components.
Miniature Fasteners Used in Medical Equipment and Devices
Back in 2019, Swissturn/USA, Inc. purchased the J.I. Morris Company and now manufactures roughly 400 configurations of high-precision miniature fasteners used in the Medical Industry – both as components in medical devices and equipment as well as for medical laboratory testing purposes. Our CNC Swiss machinery is used in the production of miniature screws, nuts, washers, and customer components used by many Medical OEMs, and unlike lower-quality, cold-headed alternatives, our threads are precision-engineered using single-point threading or roll forming. The miniature fasteners are manufactured from stainless steel (DFARS compliant) and brass and meet the highest standards, offering full material (mill) and passivation certification upon request as required and most are in stock and can be purchased through our online catalog on the JI Morris Co website.
