NIH awards contract to MaximBio for the development of a new rapid test platform

MaximBio, a manufacturer of diagnostic solutions, has secured a new contract from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop a Covid-19 and Influenza A/B combo test under the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) initiative.

The RADx aims to accelerate the innovation and commercialisation of diagnostic technologies for Covid-19 testing. The new contract builds on the company’s collaboration with the NIH during the pandemic and is partially funded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, the NIH, and the Department of Health and Human Services. MaximBio previously partnered with the NIH to launch the MaximBio ClearDetect Covid-19 Antigen Home Test successfully.

The new combo test will employ lateral-flow assay (LFA) technology in combination with the FiarFly analyser platform and MaximBio’s manufacturing techniques to deliver improved assay performance. The FiarFly platform is a battery-powered, pocket-sized reader designed to perform diagnostic testing at home with results similar to those obtained in a laboratory. The reader is easy to operate and allows for increased accessibility and higher sensitivity at a cost similar to visually read at-home tests.

MaximBio’s chief operating officer, Jonathan Maa, expressed enthusiasm for the project and the opportunity to offer the market an innovative and affordable diagnostic platform for at-home testing solutions.
