Olympus introduces the POWERSEAL™ Sealer/Divider in the EMEA region

Olympus has recently launched its POWERSEALTM Sealer/Divider in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. This innovative bipolar device offers a range of advanced functions, including sealing, dissection, and grasping capabilities, catering to surgeons across various medical specialties. Whether used in laparoscopic or open surgical procedures, the device provides state-of-the-art performance. The introduction of POWERSEAL complements Olympus’ existing hybrid technology, THUNDERBEAT, thereby strengthening their advanced energy portfolio.

Tilman Kamlah, Head of Surgical Endoscopy at Olympus Europa, expressed excitement about the market release of POWERSEAL in the EMEA region. He emphasized the device’s exceptional quality, which has already been proven in non-European markets worldwide. POWERSEAL supports the treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions by ensuring reliable vessel sealing, superior dissection, and enhanced usability during surgery. Kamlah highlighted how POWERSEAL completes their comprehensive advanced energy portfolio, enabling hospital departments to streamline processes, reduce costs, and simplify operations.

Initial clinical experience has demonstrated the impressive performance of the 5mm POWERSEAL devices. These devices offer consistent and strong sealing through uniform tissue compression. Dr. Justin A. Maykel, Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at UMass Memorial Health, praised the intuitive and safe design of the products. Dr. Nikhilesh R. Shekhar from New York Presbyterian, New York Bariatric Group, noted that POWERSEAL outperformed other options in terms of speed and provided quick and bloodless vessel seals.

POWERSEAL stands out due to its proprietary jaw design, which ensures maximum control over bleeding and enhances dissection capabilities. Surgeons can focus entirely on their patients and the surgical process, benefiting from superior control, efficiency, safety, and performance. Furthermore, the device facilitates minimally invasive treatments, offering patients a less invasive approach. The POWERSEAL Sealer/Divider reduces the force required to close the jaw while maintaining strong sealing strength. With improved ergonomics that provide a comfortable grip, surgeons can enjoy enhanced comfort throughout procedures, ultimately delivering a superior user experience.

The POWERSEAL Sealer/Divider excels in various medical specialties, including colon, stomach, and lung cancer treatments, as well as non-cancerous conditions. It finds application in lower and upper gastrointestinal surgery, gynecology, urology, and other areas. The device is designed to cater to specific procedures such as colorectal resection, bariatric surgery, total laparoscopic hysterectomy, and nephrectomy (kidney removal for cancer treatment). As of today, POWERSEAL Sealer/Divider is commercially available in the EMEA region.
