Nuffield Health has signed a new 20-year agreement worth £200 million with medical technology company GE HealthCare to provide diagnostic services. This partnership is set to enhance diagnostic capabilities and, according to the UK’s largest healthcare charity, will help alleviate pressure on the NHS by addressing growing waiting lists. Currently, almost 20% of NHS diagnostic patients are waiting longer than the government’s six-week target.
“We are committed to playing our part in getting the nation back to better health. With NHS under sustained pressure and waiting lists at critical levels, this major investment will deliver cutting-edge diagnostic technology, helping to deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses, and opening up much-needed capacity to treat more people,” says Nuffield Health chief executive Alex Perry.
The deal builds on a successful multi-vendor servicing agreement from 2017, where GE HealthCare managed Nuffield Health’s full portfolio of medical technology across its 37 hospitals and 110 fitness and wellbeing centers. Under this new 20-year managed service contract, GE HealthCare will oversee the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and training of medical technology used by Nuffield Health.
This year alone, more than 100 devices are set to be delivered across Nuffield Health’s network of hospitals, and nearly 800 pieces of equipment will be rolled out over the course of the partnership, covering areas like imaging, ultrasound, surgery, and X-ray.
The agreement mirrors a similar seven-year strategic partnership that GE HealthCare recently signed with Sutter Health in California.
