NeoChord announces a new CEO

NeoChord has appointed Todd Berg as its new CEO to lead the management of its initiatives focused on mitral valve repair. NeoChord, based in Minneapolis, specializes in developing technology for delivering artificial chords to address mitral valve regurgitation. In his role, Berg is responsible for overseeing both clinical and commercial programs related to the transeptal and transapical repair of damaged mitral valve chords.

The company’s DS1000 transapical (TA) chord repair system has received commercial marketing authorization in Europe and has successfully placed over 5,000 neochordae in more than 2,000 patients. NeoChord’s NeXus transseptal (TS) chord repair system, featuring the same proprietary suture-based anchor elements as DS1000, is currently undergoing feasibility clinical trials.

Berg, bringing over 30 years of significant medtech experience, now assumes the responsibility for these products. His most recent position was as the CEO of Metavention, a company focused on intravascular denervation for hypertension treatment. Prior to Metavention, Berg served as the CEO of Torax Medical, known for developing magnetic augmentation to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. Torax Medical was eventually acquired by Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon division along with its innovative technology.

“One of the most significant clinical gaps in structural heart innovation is providing patients a treatment option to address mitral regurgitation before the disease progresses to stages where the heart becomes damaged,” Berg said in a news release. “The opportunity to develop a first-line therapy for mitral valve disease, by resolving regurgitation early in the disease state, is incredibly compelling.”
