Boston Scientific has announced that it has finalized its acquisition of Valencia Technologies.
The Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company had initially revealed plans to acquire the urinary incontinence treatment developer in January, though financial terms were not disclosed by either party.
This deal represents the latest significant addition to Boston Scientific’s Urology portfolio, which was previously expanded with the acquisition of Axonics in 2024.
Valencia Technologies focuses on developing therapies for bladder dysfunction. Its FDA-approved eCoin implantable tibial nerve stimulation (ITNS) device is designed to treat urge urinary incontinence (UUI), a common symptom associated with overactive bladder (OAB).
The coin-sized eCoin device is implanted just beneath the skin near the ankle through a minimally invasive procedure. It is intended for patients who have had success with percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS), as well as those who cannot tolerate or have not responded adequately to more conservative UUI treatments.
After implantation, the device delivers intermittent, automatic stimulation to the tibial nerve, helping regulate communication between the brain and bladder. Clinical trial data showed that 68% of patients experienced at least a 50% reduction in UUI episodes.
“The acquisition of Valencia Technologies expands Boston Scientific’s pelvic health portfolio to include ITNS, a rapidly growing segment where the company does not currently have an offering,” a Boston Scientific spokesperson said via email. “This strategic expansion broadens the treatment options Boston Scientific offers to physicians for patients suffering from pelvic health disorders.”
This is Boston Scientific’s second completed acquisition of 2026, following its recent purchase of Nalu Medical. Earlier in January, the company also agreed to acquire Penumbra in a $14.5 billion deal, announced just days after the Valencia agreement.
