As Insulet continues to strengthen its leadership in the insulin patch pump market, new competitors may soon enter the field.
The Acton, Massachusetts–based company has long dominated the space with its Omnipod platform, and its latest-generation Omnipod 5 generated nearly $700 million in revenue in Insulet’s recently reported third-quarter results.
However, the competitive landscape is expected to evolve. Medtronic, Tandem Diabetes Care, and Beta Bionics all have anticipated patch pump launches—some potentially within the next year.
In Europe, ViCentra recently secured major funding to commercialize its patch pump and is eyeing future U.S. expansion. PharmaSens, meanwhile, announced a strategic partnership with SiBionics earlier this year to co-develop an all-in-one insulin patch pump.
Other players are also advancing their own technologies. U-Pump reported progress with its system, Modular Medical introduced a next-generation non-automated patch pump, and Embecta received FDA clearance for an open-loop device before ultimately discontinuing the program. Additionally, Luna Diabetes raised $23.6 million this year to further develop its own patch pump platform.
During Insulet’s third-quarter earnings call, CEO Ashley McEvoy addressed questions about the company’s outlook amid the expanding patch pump market and how Insulet plans to continue growing its market share.
