Resonetics Opens a Second Manufacturing Facility in Costa Rica
With a USD 10 million investment, U.S.-based multinational Resonetics, known for developing key components for medical devices, has opened its second manufacturing plant in Costa Rica, located in the Coyol Free Zone in Alajuela.
This expansion aims to enhance the company’s manufacturing and technological development capabilities in the country. The new 54,000-square-foot facility, which includes new offices and advanced production areas, will complement the existing facilities in the same industrial park.
“Resonetics is thrilled to be expanding our presence in Costa Rica. Since our initial investment in 2016 with just 16 employees, our Costa Rica site has grown to be our largest, with more than 550 team members, and has been instrumental in our success serving our medical customers globally. Costa Rica’s thriving medical device ecosystem, highly skilled workforce, and strong government/industry collaboration have made this a location of choice to support Resonetics continued strong global growth,” stated Dave Mitchell, SVP Operations, Resonetics.
Beyond the initial USD 10 million investment in the new plant, Resonetics plans to invest an additional USD 15 million over the next three years. This substantial investment will not only support the company’s growth but also create 300 new jobs.
“This second Resonetics facility in Costa Rica reaffirms the confidence that both national and foreign investors have in the support provided by the Government of the Republic. It also underscores the significance of the medical device industry in the country, which strongly believes in Costa Rican talent and human capital. We will continue to eliminate bottlenecks and bureaucratic obstacles to create a better business environment for the productive sector, thereby generating new employment opportunities. The Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Commerce celebrates business initiatives that drive innovation and technological development, further establishing the country as a strategic location for the global industry,” stated Francisco Gamboa, Minister of Economy, Industry, and Commerce (MEIC).
Resonetics’ commitment to growth and innovation reaffirms their trust in our human talent. With this announcement, Resonetics will be providing 300 employment opportunities for Costa Ricans, and we are confident that we can continue our collaboration to support their ongoing growth,” said Indiana Trejos, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade.
Laura López, General Manager of the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), stated, “Costa Rica is a global leader in the medical device industry, home to over 95 multinational companies and the top exporter of these products in Latin America. The expansion of companies like Resonetics further solidifies our position as a key hub for the sector, driven by our commitment to creating ideal investment conditions and aligning our workforce with industry needs”.
Costa Rica’s life sciences sector currently employs over 55,000 people and exports 44 different types of medical devices to various markets. In the first half of 2024, exports from this industry in Costa Rica surpassed USD 4.1 billion.
